Pens Can't Finish with the Turkey on the Table


Right off the bat we see Jackman and Engelland drop the gloves. Each got their fair share of hits in, but the refs don’t let this scruff last long.

An early save from Brent Johnson foreshadowed the performance we would get from Mr. Johnson this afternoon.

Dups gets a nice wrister shot off after some ground board play by Geno.

Geno and Sutton both go to the sin bin at 2:55, Sutton for hooking and Geno for diving. Funny thing was Geno was never completely down on the ice so we had no idea where that came from, probably Bill McCreary ‘s stache.

Roloson stops a couple off shot from Papa Sarge.

Park receives from Free Candy.

Geno makes a extremely nice pass, the Dups tries to redirect in the net but hits the post.

Cookie takes the puck in neutral zone almost sneaking one by Roloson, but the shot goes far wide.

Brent Johnson makes the save on Thompson who w
as standing at his doorstep. BJ doesn’t want any Girl Scout cookies!

Josh Bailey scores off the rebound though at 9:55. [0-1]. Streit and Meyer with the assists.

Free Candy goes to the box at 9:24 for hooking.

Brent Johnson makes a nice pad save to end the PP.

Geno sends over a pass to set up Benny Lava, but Roloson makes the save on Lovejoy’s shot.

Jordan Staal draws a penalty and send Hillen to the box at 13:29 for holding.

Pens struggled on the PP only producing 2 shots. PP 0-1

Finally the Pens get a deserved break when Mr. Malkin scores on a ridiculous backhander on the short side of Roloson at 17:22. [1-1], Lovejoy and Godard with the assists. Roloson was STUNNED.


BJ makes a leg save on a Sutton slapper from the blueline to virtually end the period.

The Islanders outshot the Pens 9-7, though the Pens led in face-offs 14-5.



The second period starts off with Roloson making a couple great saves on Talbot and Gonch.

BJ makes his own great gloves save through traffic. I had no idea how he even saw the puck.

Addsy goes to the box for unsportsmanlike conduct at 3:22, 6 seconds later Hunter goes to the box for hooking at 3:28.

Bill Guerin almost had the Pens second goal with a great c
lose range shot but Roloson makes the save.

BJ matches that save when he makes a sprawling poke check on a breaking John Tavares.

Staalzy and Cookie go on a little breakaway. Jordo takes a shot from the right wing circle and Cookie capitalizes on the rebound [2-1]. Staal and Gonch credited the assists.


Hillen goes to the box for interference at 13:29, then Sutton goes to the box for high sticking ends up being a double minor for splitting Geno’s chin open.

Only good coming out of the extended powerplay was an UNREAL poke check save on a shorthanded Hillen who took advantage of the Pens changing as he came out of the box.

Pens go 0-5 on the powerplay. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass.

The period ends with the Isles leading in shots 11-9, and 20-16 so far through the game.



Felt pretty good going into the 3rd up 2-1.

Feds almost scores on a wrap around after great back checking by Robot and Geno.

Bergenheim scores on a wicked wrist shot that deflects off of BJ’s glove [2-2]. Nielsen and Hunter with the assists.

Staalzy decides to the go after Thompson after he lands a hit on Marty Skoula . Jordan started off good but ended badly. Godard should take him o
ut back and beat him so he knows how to fight.

Thompson goes to the box, 2 for boarding and 5 for fighting.

Staal goes to the box, 2 for instigating 5 for fighting and 10 for instigator misconduct.


Bill Guerin goes to the sin for Too many men at 13:37. PP killed.

Mike Rupp destroys Bergenheim’s life with a huge check into the boards.

Tavares scores a garbage goal off the rebound at 13:48 [2-3]. Meyer and Okposo with the assists.

  • HCDB said that we could possibly see some “fresh bodies” by this weekend or Monday so let’s cross our fingers.
