PensU Player Profile: Tyler Kennedy

Throughout the off-season, we here at Pens Universe are going to provide you with player profiles that will summarize our opinions on the strengths and weaknesses of each player as well as highlighting their performance this past season, and we'll also include an outlook for the 2010-2011.

TYLER KENNEDY

2009-10 Stats
Salary: $725,000
Points: 25
Goals: 13
Assists: 12
(+/-): 10
PIM: 31

Strengths:
Quick with the puck; great along the boards; decent slapshot; strong forecheck.

Weakness
Lack of size; balance; positioning; poor shot selection.

09-10 Assessment

Although TK missed about 18 games with varying injuries he still managed to make an impact on the ever efficient third line. Racking up a total of 25 points with 13 goals, Kennedy remains the third lines quick draw sniper. His scrappy board play started to show more throughout this year and especially during the playoff run. With TK still on an entry deal contract his impact on this team was as consistent as his previous 2 years in the big leagues.

Awards:
None

10-11 Outlook:

Next year will be TK's final year under contract with the Pens. We should see some great play from him with the motivation that an aspiring Wilkes Barre guy like Letestu or Johnson could take his spot. If he can stay healthy and develop a better shot selection he may just stay staking with Staal and company. If not we may see the undersized winger finding himself scratched often, or worse, the subject of trade rumors.

Worth his Salt?

13 goals for under 7 figures, he sure is.

With the Pens in 10-11?

Contract year ahead. Needs to stay consistent.
