UPDATE: Malkin to play in KHL if NHL lockout

Start getting use to news like this.

Evgeni Malkin has agreed to a lockout deal with his old KHL team Metallurg Magnitogorsk, per multiple reports online. Geno played with Magnitogorsk for three season (36G, 55A) before being drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in '06-'07.

With CBA talks going nowhere and players needing to play, expect more NHL players to start playing overseas until the inevitable lockout ends.

UPDATE 8/28 -- Malkin's agent has come out saying no deal with any KHL team has been signed. It sure seems like it will happen if no agreement is reached between the owners and the NHLPA by September 15. It's just a matter of which team Geno signs with. He has history with Metallurg, but sounds like Geno and his agent have been listening to other KHL team offers. Stay tuned.
