The Hershey Bears and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins secured a clash in the second round of the Calder Cup playoffs last week. Now their NHL parent clubs will do the same in the Stanley Cup playoffs when the Washington Capitals play the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
AHL alumni on both NHL teams have waged many East Division battles.
"I think it's pretty neat," Bears head coach Bob Woods said Wednesday. "You have two organizations that all know each other very well, all familiar with a lot of players who have competed the last while here. Both series match up pretty well. It should be exciting for both of them."
The Caps and head coach Bruce Boudreau could help Hershey's cause with physical play that necessitates recalls from WBS.
